Becoming A NELPG Patron Member

NELPG was instrumental in saving ex-‘North Eastern’ locomotives from British Railways that had ceased running in 1967. It has, for over 60 years, kept them operating for everyone to enjoy and experience the sights, sounds and smells of railway steam heritage.

The maintenance required to keep our fleet of four locomotives operational requires funds above and beyond what they can individually earn on heritage railways. Aside from this fact – if the wheels aren’t turning, the locomotives aren’t earning!

To ensure this continues you can help by becoming a Patron Member and contributing to our charity.

Every 10 years each a boiler has to be fully examined and reinsured for further use. On average we need to invest around £270,000 per annum and only generate 50% of this from hire incomes.

What Does Being A Patron Member Mean?

By becoming a Patron Member and providing a regular monthly gift, you can help close the gap between income and expenditure and provides increased assurance that our North Eastern Locomotives can be operated for us all to enjoy.

You can become a Patron Member from £10 per month and this includes for membership of NELPG and receipt of NELPG News and the opportunity to partake in sponsored visits to ride behind our engines and visits to railways of heritage interest.

Here are some examples of what our Patron fund has helped contribute towards:

  • Renewal of the replacement cylinder for Q6 63395
  • Funding the overhaul of J72 69023 “Joem“
  • Contributing towards to 10-year overhaul of K1 62005

Donations are a vital source of income for NELPG and all gifts large and small are gratefully received. Thank you for considering making a regular gift to help North Eastern Steam.
