Just as things looked set for another successful season with the Q6 having covered over 2,200 miles, disaster struck on 15th May 2023. Just having left the platform at Grosmont station, the Q6’s right-hand cylinder fractured. Other than breakage of the outer cylinder, there was no other readily apparent serious damage, and the locomotive was recovered and moved to the shed.

We’ve now raised £50,000 towards the Q6 cylinder replacement and with a little more help you can help us meet the potential need of £70,000+ for the casting, machining, and fitting of a new cylinder.

The new right-hand cylinder is expected to be cast in March 2024 with the machining and fitting to follow. We plan to have her operational by 2025 to make best use of her boiler certification, due to expire in 2028.
